I am old enough to realise this will never happen, but I was also in the fortunate position to have a bit of spare cash [ if there is such a thing] to ask Tony Runkee to paint me a unit of TAG Spahis of the Porte for me.
Ive banged on a bit about Tony in my other blog, but like all talented miniature figure painters he really knows about how to apply colour.
Anyway I finally got my finger out and based the figures up. Naturally I am really pleased about how they turned out, Tony certainly put some effort into what is a really fine range of figures. The irony is that I have myself re painted/touched up a unit of Mini Fig Akinji, bought from an old wargaming colleague, Rahul Sarnak, naturally there is a big contrast between the two sets of figures, but I actually like the charm of the Mini Figs, and although they do look a bit like Hobbit cavalry next to my TAG Spahis, I really dont mind at all. Anyway thanks again Tony for some beautiful figures, now if only I got a lottery ticket every week.
What do you mean if !!!! - I'll read the post now ....
ReplyDeleteAndy,
DeleteI always mean to put on the lottery, but somehow I keep forgetting. So if you dont buy a ticket and all that.
Robbie as a former servant of Government opression you know exactly what I mean bee-dee bee-dee bum!!!
DeleteGreat stuff Robbie- Tony is indeed a talented man!
ReplyDeleteThere's now't wrong with your painting either!!
Darrell.
Darrell,
DeleteTony is a very talented painter, who like the best seems to have an eye for the right colour. Personally I see myself as not bad, but never up to the standard of the top painters, I just havent the skill or the patience.
So nice. Will you be gloss varnishing them to match the rest of the army? ;-)
ReplyDeleteThey were matt varnished, so I think I will just leave them as they are Colin,
DeleteThey are very good.
DeleteThey look fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteTAG have done some serious research and have producded a first rate range of Ottoman Turks. Tony has also worked his magic, and they are great figures.
DeleteBoth the figures and the painting are gorgeous. Wouldn't a whole army of TAGs painted by Tony look wonderful?
ReplyDeleteYou have to think BIG though; if money were no object one would travel around the UK and simply buy existing collections, hire painters as full time staff working exclusively for you, have a WHC style game room, and have a full time staff of gamers at your beck and call to play a game whenever the mood strikes you.
Jim
Afternoon Jim,
DeleteIts a very big word, if. If I was loaded I would certainly hire the talents of Tony and two or three other very talented painters. However my main goal would be to purchase the armies of Peter Gilder. But that will never happen.
Robbie, I think your collection is all the more interesting in having a diverse range of Ottoman castings, and how they are painted, and based. I think TAG produce the best Ottoman castings on the market, and they work quite well with Essex Miniatures. Those sipahi, I must say, do look exotic. Great viewing. Michael
ReplyDeleteVery nice!! The colours are really vibrant.
